Ceramics 2 Final

My goblets were my most successful project because the Italian flag goblet turned out great. The faded goblet didn't turn out the best but it taught me that not all things go the way you plan them to be. For the process I just made the top which is a cup then I made the stem. After that I just cleaned it up and fired them. Once they were fired I painted them several times to make sure the paint looked good on the cup. Then they got fired and one turned out great but the other one just didn't fade the way I wanted it to. This project was successful because it was a project that taught you things that you can use in life. My faded goblet didn't turn out how i wanted it but my Italian one did; things in life sometimes go the way you plan and sometimes they don't.

My salsa dish was a hassle because I have never thrown anything like it on the wheel. When you had to make the plate part you had to be careful not to touch the cup part. Once I got to cup i had to be careful not to hit the plate and mess it up. At one point my cup collapsed but I still had enough clay so I brought it up. The dish turned out alright once I brought it up and it was fired. once it was fired I painted it. The paint bubbled up so much that when you touched it you could cut your self on it. I had to sand it which was had because the plate a a lip around the edge and would break if I wasn't careful. So I  careful sanding it and in the end it turned out okay.

This is one of my first pieces on the wheel and my place pieces on the wheel. I learned how to shape it more and flatten the top so it does not crack. I also cleaned up my newer pieces by sanding down bumps and by just not being careless while making them. I learned how to make a spout and a mushroom lid. I also painted more; I put a strip on my final pieces. On my older pieces i just painted them one color. I would not put many coats on my older pieces but now I out many coats on my different colors. I as an artist grew by how much work i put into my projects and how they looked.

Mrs. Gravlin's teaching style was great. Students got to use their imagination for their projects which is how art classes should be. Art is people expressing themselves so this teaching style let people express who they are. We taught ourselves but also taught our peers but we got help from Mrs. G. In the beginning we worked on cylinders that was teaching ourselves because we had to get our feel on the wheels. When I had Trouble centering a piece my peers would give me tips to try to center it. When I was making my teapot I had never thrown a lid so Mrs. G taught how to do it. This class was great because it taught how to be independent in the classroom.
